LAS VEGAS (AP) — A man who leaped over a judicial bench and attacked a Nevada judge during a sentencing hearing in Las Vegas last month that was captured in a courtroom video that went viral has now been indicted for attempted murder. A grand jury returned the nine-count indictment against Deobra Redden, 30, in Las Vegas on Thursday. Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus was about to deliver Redden’s sentence in an attempted battery case on Jan. 3 when he lunged over the bench at her. A week later Judge Holthus sentenced him to up to four years in prison for the battery charge he had pleaded guilty to in November. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said at the time that Redden’s adult criminal history included convictions for three felonies and nine misdemeanors, mostly involving violent acts.

“The district court clearly recognized the gravity of dismissing the case and accordingly provided a thorough analysis, amply supported by factual findings,” Judge Johnnie Rawlinson wrote in Tuesday's 6-page opinion. In dismissing the case in Nevada, Dorsey sanctioned Stovall for “bad faith,” saying he had improperly attempted to use documents that were leaked or stolen in a cyberattack to pursue Mayorga’s case. Mayorga's lawsuit claimed conspiracy, defamation, breach of contract, coercion and fraud. By the time Dorsey threw out the case, Stovall claimed Mayorga should receive for more than $25 million in damages. “The district court did not abuse its discretion when it found that a case-terminating sanction was appropriate,” the ruling said.

CNN —Duane Davis, accused in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur, called it “the biggest case in Las Vegas history” during his arrest, police body camera footage shows. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department footage was obtained by CNN affiliate KVVU. Shakur, 25, was shot as he left a boxing match on the Las Vegas Strip. The teens, ages 18 and 16, appeared separately before a judge who scheduled each to appear again next Tuesday in Las Vegas Justice Court. The 16-year-old was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of murder and other charges after the video of the bicycle crash circulated widely on the internet. Probst’s widow, Crystal Probst, and daughter, Taylor Probst, were in court for Thursday's hearing but left immediately afterward without speaking with reporters. Male voices in the car can be heard laughing as the vehicle steers toward Probst and rams the bicycle. Wolfson declined to say Thursday whether police have the cellphone on which the video was allegedly recorded.

LAS VEGAS — Prosecutors said they won’t seek the death penalty against a former Las Vegas-area politician who pleaded not guilty Wednesday to killing a veteran investigative journalist who wrote articles critical of him and his managerial conduct. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said he and a panel of prosecutors concluded that there were no qualifying aggravating factors to make Telles’ trial a capital case. The state Supreme Court has also suspended Telles’ law license pending results of a State Bar of Nevada investigation of allegations that he misappropriated funds of clients in his private law office.

Authorities are seeking to remove from office an elected — and now jailed — administrator accused of killing Las Vegas investigative journalist Jeff German, officials said Tuesday. Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles, whose office handles the affairs of people who die without a clear heir or estate plans, "has neglected to perform" his duties, according to a county statement. He was still listed on the Clark County website on a page of elected officials. “Clark County has taken the first step in asking the court to remove Robert Telles from elected office as the Public Administrator," the county said in the statement. "In filing with the court at the direction of Clark County, District Attorney Steve Wolfson has set the process in motion."
